What is a DTF (Direct-to-Film)?

DTF (Direct-to-Film) is a printing process where a design is first printed onto a special PET film using specialized inks. While the ink is still wet, a heat-activated powder is applied to help the design bond to fabric. The film is then cured using heat to dry and set the design. Once ready, the film is placed onto a garment and heat-pressed, then peeled away—sometimes followed by a second press for added durability. DTF is popular because it produces vibrant, detailed designs and works on a wide range of materials, including cotton, polyester, and even leather.

Why do some DTF transfers feel heavy?

Many DTF prints use full-ink fills. QB Transfers uses RevealPrint™ Technology to remove the shirt color from the art to reduce unnecessary ink coverage, creating a softer, cleaner finish, and high-quality results.

What is a DTF gang sheet?

A DTF gang sheet is a large sheet of transfer film that contains multiple designs printed together in one layout. Instead of printing one logo at a time, several logos, graphics, or sizes are “ganged” (grouped) onto a single sheet to maximize space and reduce waste. This makes it more cost-effective when printing multiple designs at once. Once printed and cured, each design is cut out from the gang sheet and heat-pressed onto garments as needed.

Can I put different sizes or designs on one sheet?

You can put multiple designs, different logos, and various sizes all on one sheet. For example, you might include a full front design, left chest logos, sleeve prints, youth sizes, adult sizes, or even completely different graphics — all arranged together to maximize space and reduce cost.

Are DTF transfers durable?

DTF transfers are built to last. When you press them correctly, they bond tightly to the fabric and hold up incredibly well—no cracking, peeling, or fading. Even with heavy use and frequent washing, your prints stay vibrant and flexible.

This makes DTF a go-to choice for sportswear, team uniforms, workwear, spirit gear, and anything that needs to look good day after day.

To keep them looking their best, wash garments inside out with normal or cooler temperatures and avoid ironing directly on the print. Treat them right, and they’ll look fresh for years.

DTF transfers also stretch with the fabric, which means they won’t split on items like leggings, hoodies, or activewear. Durable, flexible, and made to move—exactly how prints should be.

What mistakes should I avoid when making a gang sheet?
  • Don’t use low-res images
  • Don’t overcrowd your designs
  • Leave a little space between graphics for easier cutting
  • Make sure everything is sized correctly before uploading
Who uses DTF gang sheets?

Everyone from small businesses to apparel brands to side hustlers. If you’re pressing shirts, hoodies, or hats, gang sheets are your new best friend.

How can I get the best results with my heat press?

For best results:

  • Pre-press garments for 5-8 seconds to remove moisture
  • Use the recommended temperature and pressure (60lb pressure, hot or cold peel; cotton 325 degrees/15 seconds; 50/50 300 degrees/12 seconds; tri-blen 255 degrees/10 seconds; 100% poly 275 degrees/10 seconds)
  • Finish with a second press using a Kraft or Teflon sheet for 8 seconds.

Starting with high-quality transfers makes the biggest difference.
